STATE News:

Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard, D-Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Sandoval and Rio Arriba counties, issued the following statement Thursday with regard to the New Mexico Supreme Court ruling to legalize same-sex marriage:

"Despite countless efforts made by County Clerks throughout New Mexico, I am proud that New Mexico will join the other 16 states who have legalized same-sex marriage and would like to commend the New Mexico Supreme Court for upholding the State's anti-discrimination provisions in the constitution and outlawing any further discrimination of same-sex couples," Garcia Richard said. "I have been touched by the stories of loving couples, here in District 43, that stood up against out-dated laws and for their equal rights as taxpaying citizens, to obtain marriage licenses in the towns they call home. This is a historic day and I am thrilled to continue to fight for all residents, regardless of race, gender, sexuality and mobility, during the upcoming legislative session."
